When I hear “cosmetic”, I would automatically think of make-up. However, there are actually different types of cosmetics. According to Darlinton Omeh, haircare, skincare, fragrances, make-up and other personal care products are all considered cosmetics. I think knowing the 5 segments will be helpful when you want to expand your business with other products. For each segment below, I categorized some of the products that I know or have used so, you can get an idea on the products that are in each cosmetic segment.
1. Hair Care Products
For my family and I, we use shampoo, conditioner, hair gels, hairsprays and hair dyes. What hair care products do you use?
2. Skin Care Products
My mom and I use cleansers, moisturizers and toners. As well as, products that help with preventing acne and preventing our skin from aging. We also use facial products, such as face masks, that helps us to relax.
According to Darlinton Omeh, roll on, body spray and perfumes/colognes are the three types of products made in this category. I usually use body sprays because I do not like how strong some perfumes can be. What about you? Which type of product do you like to use? Tell me in the comments below.
4. Make-up Products
There are different make-up products that I use for different parts of my face. For my face, I use a foundation, a concealer and a powder. For my eyes, I use an eyeshadow, an eyeliner and a mascara. For my cheeks, I use a bronzer, a blush and a highlighter. For my lips, I use a lip liner, a lipstick and a lip gloss.
I would assume any products that do not belong to the other four segments are probably included in this category. So, I think any personal care products that I use, such as body wash, are in this category.
As you can see, there are many cosmetic products I am using in my life and I’m sure you are too! So, tell me in the comment section if you use any products from any of the 5 cosmetic segments. Also, comment below if you are running a cosmetic business, which segment are you specializing in? Or if you are planning to start your cosmetic business, which segment would you like to specialize in?
